Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is a rare condition that can lead to kidney failure.

The most common symptoms of HUS are: 

  • Belly (abdominal) pain
  • Bloody or watery diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Fever

Diagnosis

Treatment

There is no treatment to stop HUS. But treatment to help support your child during the illness may include:

  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) stay 
  • IV fluids and electrolytes 
  • Blood transfusion
  • Dialysis
  • Medication
